Gardening Friends is a unique organization which provides
gardening information and supports projects beneficial to the City of
Lufkin. The organization is non-profit and membership is open to the
public. |
|
The Organization sponsors a lecture the first Thursday
from February through November at 7 p.m. in the Community Services
Building at Angelina College. A drawing for
plants is held after the lecture and refreshments are served.
Membership dues for Gardening
Friends are $25 per year and a
PDF application is available.
The Gardening Friend's organization is unique in that you can
participate at the level you are most comfortable at, i.e., you can
attend lectures and receive the
newsletters, or you can be a part of the weeding team or a committee
member.
The
Gardening Friends of Lufkin dedicated the hippo memorial statue
located at the entrance to Ellen Trout Park and Zoo on Tuesday, June
8, 2004. The hippo statue, a project of the Gardening Friends,
was placed in memory of Nancy Wannemacher and other
gardening friends. The names of Rachel Dowling and Michael Mylan
have been added to the bronze plaque.

Volunteer Gardeners
Needed!
City Arborist Rachel Emrick is sending out an SOS for those
gardeners who have some time to nurture some plants that
will be given away at the plant drawing after the lectures.
Plants and seeds will be provided by Rachel. We might even
throw in a pot or two. If you have time and the inclination
to help the Gardening Friends, please call
Rachel at 633-0431.
