FUND RAISERS

Fund Raising History..... As with all organizations that are involved in civic projects, Kiwanis is no different when it comes to the need for funds to support the many civic projects we are involved in. These much needed funds must be raised during the year from our fund raising programs. The face of the Lufkin Kiwanis Club Fund Raisers has gone through several changes over the past years. The first fund raiser was pancake suppers. Then we put on Ministerial Shows for some years. After that we sold Canned Dates door to door. Then we really went big time with the inception of our #1 fund raiser, our annual TV Auction, which was started in 1960. Some years went by and the Annual Turkey Shoot was started in 1968 just before Thanksgiving. Up until 1997 this was the only fund raisers we had. In 1997 we were given the opportunity to be a part of the annual 4th of July activities at the Lufkin Trout Park & Zoo. We have 4 refreshment booths where we sell refreshments during the 4th of July festivities. We hope to add to the number of booths that we have and we expect this year to be even better. The 4th of July project is not considered a fund raiser and these proceeds are designated to help with administrative cost. A new project that we are currently working on is a Kiwanis Golf Tournament. Our plans are for this to be an annual event that should turn out to be our #1 fund raiser. This event will be held at the Lufkin Country Club in the latter part of September. This will be a 4-Man, Best Ball Scramble. As our plans are finalized we will start the advertising with full details about the Tournament. All funds raised from the fund raisers are designated for Community Services. Remember, 100% of all funds raised from our fund raising projects are put back into the community in support of such organizations as, The Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, Buckner Home, and many school activities just to name a few, so when asked to contribute time and money in support of these programs you can give with assurance that your time and money is spent well and put back into the growth and development of both our community and our youth.
