Kiwanis of Lufkin, TX
Fund Raiser - TV Auction
The Kiwanis TV Auction of 2008 was held Sunday March 9th at Memorial Hospital. It was aired on KTRE from 1 PM to 5 PM. This is the major fund raiser for the Kiwanis Club and the local merchants participated by providing items to be auctioned or by a monetary gift. This year thanks to the generosity of our merchants we had 80 items to auction
Levels of sponsorship are as follows:
Corporate $1,000 minimum. Corporate sponsors for 2008 were Brookshire Brothers, Wal-mart, Pineywoods Home Health Care, Inc., and Temple Inland
We had four 'Friends of Kiwanis', donating $200 to $700, these were Ace Paint Contracting, Langston Construction, Lufkin Industries and Project Brokers
There were 38 mini-sponsors who donated $75 to $199.
Kiwanis has been conducting the TV Auction since it was started by Sam Griffin, Sr. in 1960. By-Laws prohibit the use of proceeds from being used for operating funds for the club. This is Lufkin Kiwanis' main fund raiser and the proceeds go to many charitable organizations in this area including but not limited to the following: Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Texas Forestry Museum, Ellen Trout Zoo, Scholarships for high school students in Lufkin, Diboll, Zavalla, Central, Huntington and Hudson, Goodwill, Salvation Army and others. In addition Kiwanis sponsors a Spelling Bee each February and they try to perform maintenance or clean up operations at Kiwanis Park. The club also sponsors Key Clubs at all of the local high schools.
