Pet Care Tips

According to the American Association of Feline Practitioners and the Academy of Feline Medicine, the established "one size fits all" annual vaccinating of cats may be exposing them to unnecessary health risks.  The report gives new and specific recommendations for how often each vaccine should be given to your cat.  These new protocols recommend working out an individual vaccination schedule with your veterinarian based on the cat's history and environment.  An older cat that lives strictly indoors would have a different vaccination schedule than would a cat who prowls outdoors or a kitten living in a multi-cat environment, such as a cattery or shelter.

Implementing this new protocol for feline vaccinations is up to the owner and their veterinarians as the recommended information in this report is as yet, untested.  Information on this report is available online at www.aafponline.com.  Whatever you choose regarding vaccinations, it is still in your pets best interest to have an annual check-up performed by your vet.  Annual physical examinations often result in early detection of diseased and the best opportunity for successful treatment.
